The Eastern Province prepares to host the first group of the U-20 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers

The Eastern Province is preparing to host the first group of U-20 AFC Asian Cup "Uzbekistan 2023" qualifiers, the group that includes our national team -the Asian champions- and China, Myanmar, Maldives and Uzbekistan.

Today, Thursday, the delegations of the participating teams in the qualifiers arrived in Dammam, as the Maldives team arrived first on September 1, followed by the Chinese team, which arrived on September 4, while Myanmar was the third to arrive on September 6, to and this morning Uzbekistan delegation arrived.

The group matches will be held from 10-18 September at Prince Saud bin Jalawi Stadium in Al-Khobar, and Prince Muhammad bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam, as the first place holder from each group qualifies directly to the finals, in addition to the five best second-placed teams.

The President of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, Yasser Al Mishal, expressed his highest thanks and appreciation to the wise leadership for its generous support to the sports sector and football in particular, which contributed to the hosting many sporting events during the past period with great support and interest from His Highness the Minister Sports President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal.

Al Misehal welcomed the delegations of the teams participating in the first group qualifiers, wishing them a pleasant stay in their second country.

The Eastern Region’s hosting of the first group matches of the U-20 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers comes as a continuation of a series of regional and Asian football tournaments and events that the Kingdom has recently hosted, most notably hosting the U-17 Arab Cup that was held in Abha from July 20 to last August, and our national team was crowned with the title.

During the U-17 Arab Cup, the Kingdom presented a successful version of the tournament, which was launched with the participation of 18 teams. The Kingdom also hosted the Arab Futsal Cup, which was held from June 20-28, and the West Asian Beach Soccer Federation Championship, which was hosted in Jazan from 18-23 May.

Last April, the Kingdom hosted 5 group matches in the AFC Champions League for the Western Region, in the highest number of clubs hosted by an Asian country in the history of the tournament, as the matches were held in 4 cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Buraidah.

Last October, the Kingdom hosted the U-23 West Asian Football Federation Championship, in addition to the U-17 West Asian Football Federation Championship last December.
