Saudi Arabia writes new history in December

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia wrote new history in sports after winning the right to organize the 2034 World Cup, as the first country in history to host the World Cup alone with the participation of 48 teams.
Saudi fans are experiencing a historic day, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, which will remain in the minds of Saudis after the announcement of the Kingdom’s victory in hosting the 2034 World Cup.
Ironically, this most important event in the history of Saudi sports comes in a month in which Saudi football has known glories and championships, whether at the national or club level, making “December” one of the most famous Saudi sports achievements throughout history.
December has been full of Saudi football achievements since the 1980s, as the Saudi national team was crowned champion of the Asian Cup 3 times throughout its history. These titles were in December, as it was crowned champion of the Asian Cup for the first time in its history on December 16, 1984, before repeating the achievement by winning the next edition of the tournament on December 18, 1988, to return to achieve the third title in the 1996 edition on December 21, while the Saudi U-19 team won the Asian Youth Cup on December 10, 1986.
The Kingdom hosted the Confederations Cup for national teams starting on December 12, 1997, and the "Green" team was crowned champion of the Arabs on December 30, 2002.
The achievements of Saudi football in December did not stop at the national teams, but Saudi clubs achieved many achievements during the same month, as Al-Ettifaq was crowned champion of the Gulf Clubs Championship on December 30, 1983, which is the first external championship in the history of Saudi clubs.
On December 22, 1991, Al-Hilal was crowned the Asian Club Champions League "1992", before the same team won the Arab Club Champions League on December 13, 1995.
In the same year 1995, specifically on December 22, Al-Shabab was crowned the Arab Elite Championship.
Al-Nassr won the Asian Super Cup on December 11, 1998, while Al-Hilal won the same title on December 11, 2000, Al-Ittihad won the AFC Champions League title on December 1, 2004, before participating in the Club World Cup on December 11, 2005. Al-Ahly won the Gulf Club Cup on December 3, 2008, while Al-Hilal registered its first participation in the Club World Cup on December 14, 2019.
On December 5, 2023, the Saudi Federation announced the official start of the women's football teams for the under-20 age groups, to begin the journey of charting the professional path for our players to create new glory in women's football, concluding the same year by hosting the Club World Cup for the first time in the history of the Kingdom on December 12, 2023.
