The Referees Committee of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), confirmed the progress of the outcomes of its strategic plan, which aims to prepare a promising generation of referees to lead football competitions, by assigning 32 promising referees to lead the matches of the regional under-13 teams championship held in Al-Taif Governorate from July 18 to 30, at an average age ranges from 20 to 25 years, including 7 referees from the Referees Academy, which is considered one of the strategic initiatives to transform Saudi football.
This tournament represents an opportunity for promising referees to gain more experience in the field of refereeing, and these crews began participating in the Premier League matches for the youth and junior categories last season.
For his part, the Chairman of the Referees Committee, the Swiss Manuel Navarro, confirmed that preparing a new class of referees is one of the most important goals of the committee that seeks to raise the level of Saudi referees, refine their expertise, and raise the value of Saudi governance regionally, continentally, and internationally.
For his part, Director of the Referees Academy at the SAFF, Khalil Jalal, praised the distinguished levels of the promising referees in the U-13 Regional Teams Championship, pointing out the importance of this tournament in terms of increasing the referees’ experiences, stressing that the Academy will continue its efforts to prepare more referees and hone their experiences.
It is noteworthy that last season the Referees Committee provided the opportunity for those wishing to join arbitration according to specific criteria, and held a course for new referees in 17 cities and governorates, where 747 applicants were accepted and underwent the courses for new referees, the subcommittee courses, and the promising courses, with those who pass will be selected to begin their arbitration career gradually.
